National Association of Home Builders Case Competition
The NAHB Student Competition is "The annual NAHB Student Competition is one of the highlights of the International Builders' Show (IBS). The competition gives students the opportunity to apply skills learned in the classroom to a real construction company by completing a management project/proposal. Proposals are submitted to a group of construction company executives who act as judges. During the convention, students defend their proposals to the judges in front of an audience." (NAHB)
As the only marketing major on a team of 12 real estate majors, my primary aim was to build out our team brand and messaging. To do this, I created our brand kit and messaging materials.
We presented our first draft of our solution at the Colorado Chapter of the Home Builder Association's yearly dinner. This presentation was in front of over 400+ industry leaders. We had 15 minutes to present the case and what we had done thus far. My role was to lead the creative direction of the presentation.
The presentation in front of the HBA was just the beginning. We continued to iterate on our deliverable from August to January 2019.
The primary goal for this competition was to create a proposal that would be presented to a panel of construction company executives. We produced a 96-page deliverable that outlined our plan for this plot of land in Coweta, OK. As the head of design, it was my job to make sure the packet fit our brand and expertly communicated our plans. This proposal can be seen HERE.
International Builders Show Final Presentation
This project ended when our team defended our proposal to the panel of judges. This took place at the International Builders Show (IBS) in Las Vegas, from February 19th to 21st, 2019. Competing against 25 other four year teams, it was a challenge to differentiate and present the best ideas possible. The slide deck I created for the presentation can be seen below:
The judges looked at each team's holistic approach for their land development proposal in Coweta, OK. After deliberation, the judges awarded the University of Denver with Third Place!
